Travel Agent Job Requirements
Virtually everyone wants an interesting, stimulating job that is new each day. Being a travel agent meets these criteria, and it is relatively easy to start in the field. Travel agent job requirements are not as demanding as other fields, though some schooling is needed. Some colleges, generally community or technical colleges, offer courses in travel agent training. Online training is a popular option today, with sites offering different types of courses. A travel agency may also have it’s own requirements for potential employees. Some require post-high school education, others will want business experience. An agency may also want someone with traveling experience or who speaks a foreign language.
These are all useful in their own way, and are specific to individual agencies depending on what their specialty is. And during your career as a travel agent, you will have to continue learning about new advances in travel, new requirements for international travel, or new trends in tourism. People expect a travel agent to be an expert, so staying up to date on these things is a requirement as well. Besides schooling, there are personal travel agent requirements as well. You have to be friendly and a good listener, as you will spend a lot of time talking to clients and vendors. Being well organized and detail oriented are also important, as you will be coordinating flights, hotel reservations, and activities, perhaps for a lengthy holiday. Clients will depend on you to organize a fun holiday that will go smoothly, with all reservations confirmed and all details planned.
